I am married with                        two children.  My daughter is a primary school teacher in Ripley                        and my son having completed his degree in Music Production is                        working for The Games Workshop at their Head Office in Nottingham.  I am delighted to have returned as the Headteacher here at Deer Park having been the deputy for four years from 2008 before moving on to be the Headteacher at Ridgeway Primary School in 2012.  Deer Park is a fantastic school with a strong and supportive staff and truly wonderful children.  I am passionately committed to improving the outcomes for all of the pupils in our care in order that they can reach their full potential. I do this through encouraging a strong sense of respect and tolerance of others with all our children as well as self –belief and resilience and fully endorse an attitude of never, never, never giving up. I believe that as the Headteacher I will strive to maintain and raise the standards, ensuring I make positive contributions to enable the children, their families and the community to continue to be proud of Deer Park Primary School.    L.A. Governor vacancy                        Mrs Liz Lord Co-opted Governor Chair of Teaching & Learning Committee                  On leaving school I trained as a Chemist working in laboratories                        in Manchester and Loughborough.  On moving to Wingerworth, I                        initially worked at British Gas before becoming a part time youth                        worker 1973 -1986 working at Clay Cross and Wingerworth youth                        clubs. From 1986 I worked  for Derbyshire Chamber of Commerce                        becomingTraining Manager in 1989.This role involved placing and monitoring apprentices in local companies and responsibility for Education Business Links which included working with teachers and children in primary and secondary schools and participating companies.  My children attended Deer Park and my grandchildren currently attend. Since retirement I have been actively involved in the life of the school both as a governor and cooking with year one/two children. My other interests include being a season ticket holder at Manchester City, cooking and walking. Mr Nick Knowles Co-opted Governor Chair of Premises, Health & Safety Committee                         Born in Wingerworth, and resident in the village ever since, I’m a                         former pupil of Deer Park. I’m married with three children who all                         attended Deer Park and Tupton Hall Schools. My eldest daughter                         graduated with a first class honours degree in Mathematics from                         the University of Essex in 2014, my younger daughter will be                         sitting her finals in International Wildlife Biology at the University of South Wales in Spring 2017 and my son is due to complete his ‘A’ levels at the same time. I’ve worked in various Sections of the Highways department at Derbyshire County Council since leaving school. I’ve formally managed junior football teams for WJSA from U7’s to U16’s and had the pleasure of accompanying Deer Park’s Year 5 and 6 pupils on all of their residential trips over a seven year period from 2004 to 2010. The latter led to me being invited to join the Governing Body in 2006 where I’ve held the role of Chair of Premises, Health and Safety since 2009. I’m keen to see that present and future pupils are given the best possible opportunities to fulfil their educational potential in an environment where they feel both happy and safe like so many of the thousands who have gone through the  school before them. I am passionate about ensuring that every child’s education is successful and happy and am driven to providing a caring and stimulating environment where children think for themselves and act for others. Where children recognise and then achieve their full potential so that they can be the best version of themselves, contribute positively to society and be proud of themselves and their outstanding school. Mrs Cathy Barnes Staff Governor                         I have worked in many different jobs before I knew what I                         wanted to do with my career. This has included waitressing,                         working as a receptionist and data entry to name but a few, the                         list is endless! This all changed when I became a mum and I                         volunteered in my children’s school. I began work as a nursery assistant in the school’s nursery and then made the choice to become a teacher.  After gaining my teaching qualification I started work at Deer Park Primary School in September 2004 as a newly qualified teacher.  Instantly I knew I had made the right choice and I felt part of the school. I became the Foundation Stage Coordinator in 2008 and was successful in securing the role of Key Stage One leader in 2013.  I enjoy every aspect of the school and work hard to ensure each child’s experiences are enjoyable as well as educational.  Working with the children in the reception class enables me to teach them the foundations they need throughout their whole life. Mrs Sharon Porteous Co-opted Governor                       My name is Sharon Porteous. I have served a four year term                       as Parent Governor. During this time I had two children                       attending Deer Park School. I find being a member of a strong,                       passionate, hardworking governing body both challenging and                       rewarding. I also work as a Mid-Day Supervisor at Deer Park                       School. Outside of school I enjoy various sports and the outdoors. I have been an Assistant Cub Leader for 5 years. I also serve on two community linked committees, one of which is to improve the facilities and equipment in the parks situated in Wingerworth. My children have now left Deer Park but I have chosen to stay on the Governing Body as a Co-opted Governor. I feel the values and success of the school should continue above and beyond exceptional levels of achievements. Mrs Sharon Lane Co-opted Governor Chair of Finance Committee                       I moved with my husband from London to Chesterfield in the                       Winter of 1990.  We have two children (a boy and a girl) who                       are now aged 22 and 19.  Both children attended Wingerworth                       Pre-School, Deer Park Primary School and then Tupton Hall                       School.  My Son obtained a Degree in Geography from Chester                       University in 2016 and in the September of the same year, my Daughter started studying for a Degree in International Tourism Management at Leeds Beckett University. Whilst my children were at the Pre-School I held the various positions on the Committee. Firstly as a member, then as secretary, followed by Treasurer and then Chair.  During my time on the Committee we successfully obtained Charitable status for the organisation.  At Deer Park Primary I was a member of the PTA and after a few years, became Chairperson. I am a co-opted Governor and have been part of Deer Park School’s Governing Body since September 2015. I have worked since leaving School at the age of 16.  For approximately 20 years I worked for solicitors covering many different areas of the Law including Trust and Probate, Crime, Matrimonial and Conveyancing.  For the last 15 years I have mainly worked in the world of Estate Agency.  I have worked in the Chesterfield area since 1991. My husband started his own company in 2010 and I work for him as Business Manager with the responsibility of dealing with all Contracts and the finances.  I also run a small business myself, creating unique cards and pictures. The words that my friends and colleagues have used to describe me are "professional", "methodical", "reliable", "logical", "approachable" and "friendly".  I have a good sense of humour and a welcoming smile is never far away.                       In 1981 I qualified as a diagnostic radiographer in the NHS then                       within 18 months I specialised in ultrasound scanning. In 1985 I                       qualified as an advanced practitioner in Medical Ultrasound. I                       subsequently became accredited in Echocardiography (heart                       scanning). I was appointed as my professional society’s industrial relations rep in 2005 and became a member of the Joint Consultative Committee of the Hospital Trust. In 2008 I was elected as staff side Chair of the committee and continued in this role until I finished work in 2012 when I had to take ill health retirement from the NHS. School Governance: I was appointed as a co-opted governor of Deer Park School in January 2001. At that time my children attended the school (they are now 25 and 21). They moved on to Tupton Hall Secondary School and subsequently to University but I stayed on at Deer Park as a governor where I have had the privilege of being the Chair of Governors for the past fourteen years. In April 2012 I was designated as a National Leader of Governance by the National College for Teaching and Leadership (which is a role that involves providing free governance support and guidance to other schools). I subsequently became a reviewer of governance in October 2012. I have since supported and/or carried out many reviews at many schools (currently 39) both within and outside of Derbyshire. I am an executive committee member of Derbyshire School Governors Association and I am the governor representative on the Derbyshire Education Improvement Board. I have been a member of Derbyshire Schools Forum (which deals with school finance at County level) for over 10 years and I am currently the vice chair. I am also an associate advisor for the Key which provides online help for governors across the UK. Deer Park is a fantastic school and I am committed to seeing our pupils receive the very best education possible. Primary Education is so important as it is the foundation for all future learning.
